Makesake Books started the way all the best ideas do: sitting on the bedroom floor with two kids who absolutely refused to go to sleep.
Our children, Archer and Bronte, have always done more than just read books—they live in them. They look for themselves in the worlds, the characters, and the magic. Like most parents, we turned to personalised books to give them that experience. But the results always felt hollow. It was usually just a generic name swapped into a rigid template, featuring characters that looked nothing like our kids, paired with repetitive, robotic writing.
We knew technology could do better. We knew stories deserved better. So, we built it.
Why Every Child Deserves to Be the Hero
Our mission is deeply personal. With a background in community services supporting people with disabilities across regional Australia, we see firsthand how much it matters for children to see themselves authentically reflected in the world around them.
Yet, traditional children’s books almost entirely overlook children with disabilities, medical differences, or assistive aids. If a personalised book only lets you change a hair colour, it isn’t truly personal.
We built Makesake Books to shatter that mould. Here, you can describe your child exactly as they are. Whether they use a wheelchair, wear hearing aids, navigate neurodiversity, or rock a pair of glasses, those beautiful details are woven naturally into every single illustration.
Crucially, the disability isn’t the plot point or a lesson to be learned. They are simply the hero of an incredible adventure, exactly as they are in real life. Because every child deserves to open a book and see a hero who looks just like them.
Who We Are
To bring Makesake Books to life, we combined our two worlds. One of us brings years of experience in graphic design, IT, and digital marketing—ensuring the platform is seamless, secure, and beautiful. The other is a teacher who understands the exact mechanics of a brilliant children’s story: the right vocabulary for the right age, a genuine emotional arc, and a meaningful message wrapped in pure fun.
We live in regional Australia with Archer, Bronte, and an entirely unreasonable number of children’s books.
