How We Use AI
Last updated: 23 July 2026
Makesake Books uses artificial intelligence to help write and illustrate your child’s story. We think you deserve to know exactly how that works, so we’ve written this page to explain it plainly.
1. Our approach to AI
We use AI as a tool within a creative process we’ve designed, not as a replacement for care and quality control. Every Book is reviewed by us before it reaches you.
2. Which AI providers we use
At the time this page was last updated, we use:
- Anthropic (Claude) — to help generate the written story.
- Google (Gemini) — to help generate the illustrations.
We may change providers over time if we believe another offers better quality, safety, or reliability. If we do, we’ll update this page and our Privacy Policy.
3. What AI does in your Book
The story
Using the details you provide — your child’s name, appearance, interests, and any dedication or companion details — our system generates a story tailored to your child.
The illustrations
Using your uploaded photo or drawing together with the generated story, our system creates painted-style illustrations of your child as the hero of every page.
4. What stays human
AI doesn’t run unsupervised. We design and refine the creative process, the prompts, and the guardrails that shape what gets generated, and we regularly review our systems to ensure security and quality.
5. Data shared with our AI providers
We only share the information needed to generate your Book — such as the relevant Uploaded Content and story details — with our AI Providers. We don’t share more than necessary, and we choose providers whose terms govern how information submitted through their tools can be used.
We’d encourage you to review our AI Providers’ own privacy and data-use policies directly if you’d like more detail than we’re able to provide here, since those terms are set by them and may change independently of Makesake Books.
6. Accuracy and creative variability
Because each Book is generated fresh, there can occasionally be small inconsistencies — for example, a detail that varies slightly from one illustrated page to the next, or a likeness that isn’t a perfect match to your uploaded photo or drawing. This is a known characteristic of current AI image generation, not a fault in our process.
We review every Book before sending it and will address genuine quality issues raised after delivery — see our Terms of Use for how refunds and remakes are handled.
7. Safety and content moderation
We use a combination of automated checks and human review to help prevent inappropriate, unsafe, or offensive content from appearing in a Book. If you upload content that raises a safety concern, we may decline to process it and will contact you.
8. Your choices
If something in your Book doesn’t look right, contact us at stories@makesakebooks.com and we’ll work with you to fix it, which may include regenerating specific pages.
9. Keeping this page updated
As our use of AI evolves — new providers, new capabilities, or new safeguards — we’ll keep this page current so you always know how your Book is actually made.
10. Contact us
